Avina specializes in preparation for the SAT, ACT, and MCAT and academic support for science and math courses.
Avina graduated summa cum laude from Rutgers University, with a degree in Cell Biology and Neuroscience and minors in Spanish and Psychology. After graduating, she spent two years at Columbia University Irving Medical Center, studying the use of stem cells and personalized medicine to treat various skin diseases. She is currently a medical student at Harvard Medical School.
Avina has been tutoring since she was in high school and has worked with students from all ages and in a wide range of academic subjects. Her experience spans from working with elementary school students on reading and math to assisting post-graduate students studying for the MCAT and applying to medical school.
Avina’s teaching philosophy centers around the belief that education should be an empowering experience. By tailoring her methods to fit each student’s needs, Avina fosters a supportive environment where curiosity and critical thinking are encouraged. Avina’s approach involves breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, using real-world applications to make learning relevant, and providing constructive feedback to guide improvement. When she’s not tutoring, Avina enjoys running along the Charles River in Boston (she’s currently training for the NYC Marathon!), exploring local coffee shops and bakeries, and finding the perfect spots to curl up with a book.
