Description

Alexander specializes in preparation for the SAT, ACT, Latin, English, ESL/EFL, SAT Subject Tests: Math I and Math II, and academic support in Latin and English.

Alexander has over a decade of experience in teaching and tutoring. Starting in high school, Alexander qualified for a tutoring program exclusive to National Merit Scholars. Having discovered his talent and passion for teaching, he tutored for America Reads through college.

Alexander earned a degree in the liberal arts with a concentration in classics from Sarah Lawrence College. He took advantage of SLC’s unique curriculum to write independent research papers on subjects ranging from religious anthropology to forensic linguistics to economic history. There, he published a selected translation from the Aeneid and proofread and edited the Greek and Latin etymology portions of the book Infinite Measure: Learning to Design in Geometric Harmony with Art, Architecture, and Nature.

After a brief stint excavating in Crete, Alexander qualified for a course in CELTA English Language Teaching. Alexander then worked as a classroom English teacher in Saudi Arabia, first at the university prep level, then moving on to teach officers in the Saudi National Guard.

Alexander came back to tutoring after returning to the US with a renewed appreciation for the struggles, successes, and differences of every student he meets. His eclectic background and open mind help him engage students of any discipline.

Alexander recently came back to the US after two years in Vienna, where he was awarded a Fulbright-sponsored teaching grant. Currently, Alexander is pursuing a Master’s in Teaching with specializations in secondary English and Latin at Colorado University Denver.

In his free time, Alexander cooks, hikes, bikes, practices yoga, listens to a bunch of audiobooks and podcasts, and plays video, computer, and tabletop games.
