Anika has worked in education for over five years, supporting students at various points in their academic journeys as an educator and academic tutor. She drives student success as a reading specialist, executive functioning coach, and application essay advisor.

Anika earned her B.A. at Vassar College, where she was awarded Sociology Department Honors, Distinction on her senior thesis, and was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Delta International Honor Society of Sociology. Anika also holds an M.A. in Teaching from Relay Graduate School of Education, where she was awarded academic honors every semester. She then completed an M.A. at Columbia University, again earning Distinction on her thesis. She served as Research Assistant at the Center for Social Development and Education at the University of Massachusetts, Boston for two years, working to evaluate the impacts of educational and social-emotional learning programs for students and schools. Currently, Anika is a PhD student in the Sociology Department at Columbia University where her research focuses on how teachers understand their institutional role in relation to their own pedagogy and how students’ spatial experiences of their schools vary based on their positionality.

As a classroom teacher working primarily in English Language Arts and reading intervention, Anika created both engaging curricula and individualized student plans addressing reading skill development for students who were behind grade level. All students in her reading groups improved their reading level by at least one grade level, with many improving by two. She has helped students to raise their grades, develop study skills to use throughout their educational careers, and boost their academic confidence. As a personal tutor, Anika has worked with students to help them gain entrance to some of New York’s most prestigious public high schools. Anika is passionate about creating personalized plans for students based on their unique learning needs and helping them to implement strategies from tutoring sessions into their own academic habits.

Anika has worked with students from elementary school through high school, often serving students for several years of their academic journeys. As a passionate writer herself, nothing brings Anika more joy than seeing students find their own academic curiosity and develop their own voice.

Anika’s approach is both encouraging and demanding, setting high expectations for student engagement in their own work and empowering students to advocate for their own learning needs. Her strong belief in her students’ capabilities spurs their own self-confidence and creates a personalized learning environment where students feel supported in reaching their academic goals.
